...Like SonIt had been two weeks since he'd spilled the beans. We were both still a bit uneasy around each other. I mean, sure this was the man who'd raised me, but the revelation that he was actually a Russian spy slightly tainted this idea. What was real when his world was full of deceit?

It was pasta night. He did the cooking, since mom was, well…mom was mom. Fettuccini Alfredo was on the menu tonight. He was just finishing, drizzling the alfredo sauce with some added flair. It made me laugh. For a second, the walls came down. This was the man I'd known all my life. This was my father.

The ConductorFor the third day in a row, I came home from school crying. I rushed past my concerned mom, up the stairs, and into my room, slamming the door behind me.

Like so many others in the past, the move hadn't been easy on me.

They'd seen me doing it again. Then, of course, they'd started teasing me. Everybody joined in, making fun of the crazy girl who closed her eyes and waved her arms around like an idiot when she thought no one was watching.

My sobs subsided after a few minutes. I blew my nose, then held my head in my hands, my dark brown hair making a curtain that hid my face. Mom would be up soon, wanting to talk. She always wanted to talk.

EpiphanyLife was good. Kelly and I had been going steady since May. Now well into July, I was living the high life. I was screaming along, having the ride of my life.

I confess, I was smitten.

It was just a few days before her birthday when I took her to the old theme park. Most of the rides were rickety and made of wood, but I kind of liked that. There were newer, faster coasters in the park, but these oldies had a certain simplistic charm. I liked them a lot.

Kelly seemed a bit shifty, though. She'd never enjoyed these creaky old rides as much as me. So, I found a compromise. There was a coaster on the other side of the park that, while still fa

My dad barged through the back door. I could tell something was different about him. He was unsteady as he walked. He shouted my mom's name a few times. I was scared for my mother, and let out a cry.

He heard me, turned, and stood over me. Though I was small, he didn't hold back.

I wondered what had changed him.

When I was sixteen, I took action. I trained, I made myself strong.

He was drunk, as usual. He went for my mother. I didn't let him touch her.

The fight was hard. I was smaller, but his blows were slow and inaccurate. I broke his nose, blood gushing onto me and the floor. At last, I kno

As usual, the taste of leather and polish remained from when I'd stuck my foot in it an hour ago.

I closed my suitcase, then fell back onto the hotel bed. I rubbed my cheek. It didn't hurt yet.

Stupid.

That was probably my last chance. She'd be on the plane now, I figured. Probably flying over Kansas right now.

Kansas. The pancake state. That's what she called it.

I shook my head. Better forget about her now, before it starts hurting.

Truth be told, I'm not a super Apple fan. I like a good Windows machine just as much as a Macintosh.

However, I did have a great deal of respect for Steve Jobs, and I am very sad to see such a visionary man leave this place so early.

Steve did nothing new. He reminds me of that one person who follows in your exact same footsteps but gets more recognition and applause than you. But justice was served, and he who deserved the true glory has received it. And yes that would be bill. Good ol' bill..but then again things aren't always what they seem. I'm just gonna stop thinking nao..

I wouldn't say he was completely unoriginal. He did have ideas. But I'm also inclined to think that when he died everybody thought better of him than was really true.

I haven't noticed much difference. People still idolize him just as much they did before his death.

Oh.

Steve Jobs was the man who was basically responsible for making Apple Computers (Macs, iPods, iPads, iPhones) what they are today. He also was involved with PIXAR, the people who made Toy Story.
